A joint operation by the Flying Squad Unit and Wakiso Police has resulted in the arrest of two suspects linked to a recent spate of vehicle thefts, with one of the stolen cars recovered in Mukono town.
The operation follows reports of two aggravated robbery incidents on May 10, 2025, in Bukasa village, Wakiso District. Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, SSP Patrick Onyango, revealed that the stolen vehicles included a white Toyota RAV4 (UAL 130P) and a white Toyota Harrier (UBR 645J).
Using CCTV footage and coordinated tracking, investigators traced the Toyota Harrier to SS Bar and Gardens in Mukono. Acting on the tip-off, Flying Squad officers moved swiftly and arrested two individuals at the location.
The suspects, whose identities are being withheld for investigative purposes, are being held at Mukono Police Station, where they have provided formal statements.
Police have also identified a key suspect, Lwanyaga Joseph, a mechanic previously linked to similar crimes. He is suspected to have masterminded the vehicle thefts and is currently at large. Authorities noted that Lwanyaga had been previously arrested on related charges and released on bond.
SSP Onyango emphasized that the hunt for Lwanyaga is ongoing and expressed confidence in his eventual capture. He also urged the public to stay alert and report any information that could support the investigation.
Police commended the quick coordination between different law enforcement units, which led to the recovery of the stolen Harrier. Efforts are continuing to locate the missing RAV4.
