French Army To Train UPDF On Mountains Fighting

The Ambassador of France to Uganda H.E Jules Armand Aniambossou has met with Uganda’s Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs (MODVA) Hon Adolf Mwesige.
The meeting, held at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs in Kampala, focused on how to strengthen and improve on the existing relationship between Uganda and France, most especially in areas of defence.
Ambassador Jules Armand praised the role played by UPDF in stabilizing Uganda and beyond. He said Uganda is able to protect its people because of the high level of professionalism of its defence forces.
He pledged to strengthen the existing bilateral relationship between Uganda and France that is built on upholding good principles like education for all, women emancipation, youth employment, respect for human rights, and engagement in business based on respect, among others.
Amb Jules Armand noted that “there is no future for Europe without the African continent”, citing the need to work together for continuous transformation.
The French Ambassador further promised to invite more French tourists to Uganda because of Uganda’s beautiful scenery, terrain and wildlife.
Uganda’s Defence and Veteran Affairs minister commended the French Government for the good working relationship with Uganda, most especially in the sector of security and defence. He noted that Uganda looks forward to sustaining this support for the continued transformation of its people.
Hon Mwesige particularly lauded France for its tremendous support in building the UPDF Mountain Division and providing the pre-deployment mission training for UPDF troops at the Peace Support Operations-Training Centre (PSO-TC) in Singo.
He remarked that the Ugandan Government has set good working policies, provided good infrastructure, guaranteed peace and security, among others; for the economy to flourish.
Attending the meeting also was the MODVA Undersecretary in charge of Finance and Administration Mrs Edith Buturo who represented the Permanent Secretary Mrs Rosette Byengoma, the UPDF Joint Chief of Staff Lt Gen Joseph Musanyufu and the Defence Spokesperson Brig Richard Karemire, among others.
