The Uganda Police Force has cautioned all political actors to strictly observe traffic regulations following a road accident involving the convoy of National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential aspirant Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu along the Kalagi–Kayunga Road in Namyoya Village, Mukono District.

The accident occurred at approximately 11:30 AM and involved a white Mitsubishi vehicle, registration number UAZ 064H, and several motorcycles escorting the politician’s convoy. According to preliminary police reports, a motorcycle rider moving at high speed rammed into the vehicle from behind, triggering a chain collision that caused multiple motorcycles to crash. The Mitsubishi vehicle later collided with some of the motorcycles, worsening the situation.

Several riders and passengers were injured and quickly evacuated to St. Francis Naggalama Hospital for emergency treatment. Those injured include Kewanza Bashir (27), Kakaire Bashir (35), Ssepereza Musa (40), Kisomba Michael (28), Ssewaya Eric (23), and Mutagubya Robert (24). Some individuals with minor injuries managed to leave the scene on their motorcycles.

Police investigations point to reckless riding and driving as the primary cause of the accident. Additionally, authorities observed that campaign boards bearing Kyagulanyi’s images had earlier been erected in the middle of the road, obstructing traffic flow and increasing the risk of accidents.

A police spokesperson issued a firm statement reminding politicians and their supporters to prioritize road safety during campaign activities. “We strongly warn all political actors to respect traffic regulations. Dangerous road behavior, such as what occurred today, will not be tolerated. We are ready to take enforcement action to ensure public safety,” the spokesperson said.

Authorities further urged politicians to work closely with traffic officers during their movements to avoid similar incidents, warning that future violations will attract strict legal and operational measures.
