KAMPALA | Uganda — Youth-led organisation Gen Z for Gen 7 has recognized Jane Barekye, the State House Comptroller, for her role in translating youth skilling policy into tangible socio-economic impact through the Presidential Skilling Hubs.
Speaking on Tuesday, February 3, Gen Z for Gen 7 chairperson Kyarisiima Israel said the recognition was driven by visible outcomes rather than rhetoric.
“A skilled youth is a stable youth. A stable youth is a strong nation,” Kyarisiima said. “Gen Z understands the difference between empty promises and tangible results. When leadership executes, lives change.”
He noted that under Jane Barekye’s oversight, Presidential Skilling Hubs moved beyond policy discussions to practical implementation, equipping young Ugandans with hands-on skills that are enabling them to earn incomes, support families, and rebuild communities.
“Presidential Skilling Hubs under Jane Barekye went beyond talk. They provided practical skills that feed families and restore hope. That is real empowerment, and real empowerment must be recognized,” Kyarisiima added.
The hubs, supervised under Barekye’s office, focus on vocational and technical skills aimed at preparing youth for employment, self-reliance, and entrepreneurship. According to Gen Z for Gen 7, the initiative has directly impacted thousands of young people across different regions of the country.
Kyarisiima also credited the prevailing peace and security under President Yoweri Museveni as a critical foundation for youth-focused development programmes to succeed. He urged young people to safeguard these gains by rejecting actions that could destabilize the country.
“Uganda has made progress in peace and security. As young people, it is our responsibility to protect these achievements so that socio-economic and political opportunities continue to expand,” he said.
The recognition, presented during the Gen Z for Gen 7 engagement on Tuesday, was described as a “proud moment” for youth leadership that values results over slogans.
“True change is felt, not just promised,” Kyarisiima said. “Jane Barekye supervised the shift from ideas to impact. That is why Gen Z for Gen 7, under my leadership, found it necessary to give recognition where it is due.”
Gen Z for Gen 7 said the award reflects its commitment to promoting leadership that delivers measurable outcomes and prepares Uganda’s youth to thrive.
“This is how we build Uganda’s future,” the group noted in a statement.
