Forum for Democratic Change ‘FDC’ is  demanding for the immediate disbandment of Local Defence Unit operatives ‘LDUs’ and Individual Police officers involved in killing and battering of citizens to be held accountable for their actions.

The leading opposition party in Uganda, FDC has instructed it’s Human Rights desk to record all these incidents while trying to seek justice when this government has finally gone

Hon.Ibrahim Semujju, FDC spokesperson revealed that party is demanding for full accountability for every life of Ugandans lost  the hands of LDUs and Police while enforcing COVID 19 measures.

The latest incidents are of a Makerere university student Emmanuel Tegu (right) and a boda boda rider from Buikwe Robert Ssenyoga whose death is blamed on Police and Local Defence Unit (LDU).
Others are Ms. Margret Nanyunja, 80, died after LDUs raided her home in Kyengera town council along Masaka road in Wakiso district on April 10. Wilber Kawono, a resident of Budaka district was shot by policemen.
On April 18,Evelyn Namulondo, a resident of Budhumbuli in Jinja town who was shot and later succumbed to bullet wounds at Jinja hospital in April.
Charles Sanga, a businessman in Jinja beaten by soldiers led by the former Jinja RDC Erick Sakwa and later died. Vincent Serungi, a resident of Wakiso town council was also shot and killed on March 31.
“We have watched on television disturbing images of Robert Ssenyoga before he passed on. His swollen head was full of wounds. It is alleged he was battered by LDUs using gun bats in Buikwe”Hon.Semujju said.
It adds “The UPDF is claiming he fell of a
motorcycle while running away. Even if he fell off, who was he running away from?”.
“The Makerere student story by Police is also not adding up.
Police blamed a mob in what looked like a cover up and even arrested innocent people. The story is at their door steps again. There are also numerous stories of people battered and maimed during this period. Below are some of the dead”.
The FDC is also demanding for the immediate disbandment of the LDUs and “Individual Police officers involved in killing and battering of citizens must be held accountable”he said.
