He made his candidacy to some of his fellow Members of Parliament on DP ticket and some of the opposition MPs mid this week. Hon. Muwanga Kivumbi is currently the Shadow Minister of Defense and Internal Affairs in the 10th Parliament. Mr. Samuel Walter Lubega Mukaaku He i a former Uganda Presidential candidate in 2011 Presidential race became the first member of DP bloc to formally declare a 2020 DP President candidacy for the President of the party. Mr. Mukaaku former Parliamentary candidate in Mawokota South consituency in 2016 on an independent ticket, a principal of DP bloc still faces a hurdle in Article 64 (a) (IV) in the DP consititution, under this Article, Mr. Mukaaku “MUST” apply to the NEC for a waiver or renunciation to be exempted for the said provision ONLY if the NEC deems it in the interest of the Party. Hon. Brenda Nabukenya She announced she was joining the race in December,2019 after unsuccessfully petitioning the National Council by moving a motion of vote of no confidence to Dep. Secretary General, Dr. Siranda Gerald Blacks and Dep. National Chairman of the party, Dr. Kiwanuka Mayambala on allegations of corruption, incompetence, illegal conduct and violation of core values and principles of DP.
