Lwemiyaga County Legislator Theodore Ssekikubo has lashed out at the unfair decision by the NRM’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) for inviting members to express interest in the speakership race well knowing the deputy will go through unopposed.

CEC endorsed Hon Anita Among as their flag bearer for the speakership race among the 12 members of parliament who expressed their interest for the seat.

According to Ssekikubo, the party executive Mr Museveni informed them that the position will be left for Anita Among since she was the deputy of the fallen speaker Jacob Oulanyah.

“If they had already chosen who to be their flag bearer before, then why did they call those with interest for the same position? That was really unfair because we all have potential for the position and so we believe that it would be better if CEC didn’t had bias” Theodore Ssekikubo said.

However, when asked whether he will contest against the flag bearer of Friday at Kololo as it was done when the late Jacob Oulanyah was endorsed by the party and left out Rebecca Kadaga, who also later joined the race independently, Ssekikubo said that he will follow the party decision and not to contest.

The race for speakership position is still on the high gear as the opposition is also set to reveal their candidates today.

Yesterday, detained legislatures; Hon Ssegirinya Muhammad and Allan Ssewanyana also admitted that they want to compete in the race as Ssegirinya wants the position of the deputy speaker and on the same occasion, Allan Ssewanyana wants to contest for the position of the speaker.

Shamim Malende the woman Member of Parliament for Kampala and Asuman Basalirwa the Bugiri Mp also expressed their interest for the position.
