Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has paid an impromptu visit to the grief stricken people of Ssembule, Kabowa Parish in Lubaga Division who lost a resident this morning at the hands of a trigger-happy police officer.

Kibuuka David, a community worker and local secretary for information, happened to have been within the vicinity of a protest staged by the residents against the blocking of a community road, Kerezia lane and the nearby swamp by some company called Ambitious Company limited.

Justus Moses, the OC of Kironde Police Post, who commanded the riot police, aimed at the unfortunate young man and shot him direct in the face and he died moments later.

“When I subsequent visited the scene, police again lobbed teargas canisters at the grieving residents and caused a stampede amongst the mourners,” Lukwago said.

He added: “This kind of recklessness and highhandedness should be condemned by all right thinking Ugandans.”

Police earlier announced that Justus had been arrested and detained at Central Police Station in Kampala.
