In a call to inspire ethical leadership among Uganda’s youth, Lt. Gen. Peter Elwelu encouraged student leaders to adopt biblical teachings as the foundation of their leadership philosophies. Speaking at a patriotism training program at Nkumba University on January 13, 2025, the high-ranking military official emphasized the importance of integrity, service, and community in building a prosperous and united nation.

Addressing student representatives from various institutions across Uganda, Lt. Gen. Elwelu highlighted the Bible as a timeless resource for moral and ethical guidance. He urged the future leaders to lead by example, cultivating values that promote fairness, accountability, and compassion in their personal and professional lives.

“The Bible teaches us to serve others selflessly and uphold integrity in all that we do. These values are the bedrock of effective leadership and national development,” Elwelu said. He further noted that Uganda’s progress depended on a generation of leaders who prioritize community well-being over personal gain.

The patriotism training program at Nkumba University is part of a broader initiative aimed at instilling a sense of national pride and civic responsibility in Uganda’s youth. Organized by the Uganda National Secretariat for Patriotism Clubs, the program seeks to nurture leadership qualities that align with the nation’s development goals.

Participants expressed their appreciation for the session, noting that the emphasis on biblical values provided a refreshing perspective on leadership. “As future leaders, we have a responsibility to lead with integrity and serve our communities with dedication. Lt. Gen. Elwelu’s message is a powerful reminder of our role in shaping Uganda’s future,” said Gloria Namuganza, a student leader from Makerere University.

The event concluded with a pledge from the student leaders to uphold the principles discussed, signaling a promising step toward fostering ethical and transformative leadership in Uganda.
