Renowned Ugandan lawyer Elison Karuhanga has embarked on a groundbreaking national campaign titled “Nobody Can Stop Reggae.” This bold initiative seeks to engage legal professionals, institutions, and communities across Uganda in an unprecedented effort to discuss legal advocacy, reform, and justice.

Karuhanga, one of the Uganda Law Society (ULS) nominees for the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), is taking a hands-on approach to legal advocacy with his “Lawyers’ Lawyer” campaign. The tour, which runs from January 4 to January 21, is a platform for dialogue on critical legal and socio-economic issues shaping Uganda today.

The itinerary covers a wide range of locations, with key stops in major towns and cities:

Kampala: Monday, January 6

Jinja: Thursday, January 9

Mbarara: Wednesday, January 8

Mbale: Friday, January 10

Gulu: Sunday, January 12

Lira: Monday, January 13

Fort Portal: Wednesday, January 8

Masaka: Wednesday, January 8

Hoima: Thursday, January 9

Additional visits will include Arua, Nebbi, Ntungamo, Kisoro, Kabale, and other towns to ensure inclusivity across the nation.

Participants can look forward to:

Discussions on judicial reforms and enhancing the justice system.

Insights into the role of the ULS and JSC in upholding legal professionalism.

Open forums for community members to raise their concerns and learn about access to justice.

Karuhanga has likened his approach to the spirit of reggae music—resilient, unifying, and empowering. “Just as reggae gives a voice to the oppressed and inspires change, the law serves as a beacon of justice and freedom,” he said during the campaign launch.

This initiative comes as Karuhanga vies for a position on the Judicial Service Commission, which advises the President on judicial appointments and ensures accountability in the judiciary. The JSC is integral to maintaining the rule of law in Uganda.

This selection process follows the Uganda Law Society Act and the ULS (Elections) Regulations of 2016, which outline the procedures for nominations and elections.

Elison Karuhanga’s nationwide tour sets a new precedent in connecting the legal fraternity with the wider population. By bridging gaps between lawyers, institutions, and the community, the campaign promises to inspire a collective push toward justice and legal reform.

With this innovative approach, Karuhanga hopes to reinforce the belief that the law, like music, has the power to unite, empower, and transform society.
