Arrested National Unity Platform ‘NUP’ supporters of presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi have been formally charged at Masaka Magistrates.

This follows their arrest last week in Kalangala District.

The first batch arrived at the court Monday afternoon amid heavy security and was escorted inside.

The second batch of NUP supporters and members arrived minutes later after spending five days in detention.

Police said Monday that a total of 126 people arrested last week in Kalangala District where Bobi Wine had gone to campaign will be charged with six counts.

Police spokesperson, Fred Enanga, told media at Uganda Media Centre in Kampala, that 99 of the suspects, who include members of Bobi Wine private security team, will be charged with assault of police officers, incitement to violence, malicious damage, doing a negligent act likely to spread an infectious disease and inconsiderate use of a public road, among others.

According to CP Enanga, 25 of the suspects were arraigned at Kalangala Chief Magistrate’s Court on the same charges after the Director Public Prosecutions (DPP) sanctioned their files.EU
