Lwemiyaga County Legislator Theodore Ssekikubo has been released by Masaka Court on a Shs10m non-cash Bail after being charged with attempted murder, assault, illegal possession of firearms, among other charges.

However, Ssekikubo’s release was overshadowed by police firing teargas to prevent his jubilant supports carrying the MP through Masaka town.

However, eyewitnesses and victims has vowed to sue Uganda Police over firing Expired Poisonous Teargas to them.

Ivan Ssendawula one of the supporters said, “I and my group are going to sue Uganda Police over this careless nonsense. How can they spray expired tiregas to citizens. The teargas got expired in 2017, this is being unhuman”.

Hon. Ssekikubo was arrested on Friday January, 10, 2019 morning amidst scuffle that involved hundreds of herdsmen and cattle dealers who were resisting a blockage of their movement to the cattle market in Lwemiyaga town council.

When Ssekikubo was arraigned before the Masaka Chief Magistrates Court, Mr Deogratius Ssejjemba, on Monday, six counts were read to him. These include among others; unlawful possession of firearms, engaging in acts calculated to cause death and inciting violence and causing physical injuries to voters. The offences were reportedly committed during the ruling NRM party primaries in 2010 when Mr Ssekikubo was contesting against Mr Patrick Nkalubo.

In an attempt to secure bail for Mr Ssekikubo, his lawyer, Mr Medard Lubega Sseggona presented sureties including; Ms Babirye Kabanda ( Masaka District Woman MP), Ms Hanifer Kawooya (Sembabule District Woman MP),  Mr Barnabas Tinkasimire (MP Buyaga West), Ms Florence Namayanja (MP  Bukoto East)  and  Mr Johnson  Kamugisha, the Lwemiyaga Sub-county district councillor.

But Ms Akasa asked court not grant Ssekikubo bail saying he doesn’t respect court orders. The Chief Magistrate concurred with her, saying the accused jumped bail in 2010
