Security personnel on Wednesday arrested seven suspects in two separate foiled robberies in Entebbe and Bweyogerere areas.

Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson said the Entebbe incident, happened at Abaita Ababari where three suspected thugs, Peter Can Onen, Samuel Lokori, and Calving Orio, were arrested trying to rob a gun from a GKO security guard.

Onyango explained that the intelligence team learned about the planned attack on a GKO guard deployed at National Water offices, and covert personnel were deployed in advance. Police said the three were arrested as soon as they grabbed the gun from the guard and were arrested on-site.

“A team of intelligence acted on the intelligence and covert deployment was made to counter the robbers, and at around 0300hrs, they came and robbed the said gun. However, they were all arrested and the gun was recovered from them,” Onyango said.

Onyango has urged members of private security to always give information in time once they are approached by criminals convincing them to participate in any criminal activities.

In a similar incident, Kira Division police has arrested four suspects on allegations of attempting to rob coffee at Bulamu coffee factory.

Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson has identified the suspects as Ivan Kyagulanyi 25, Jackson Wandera 28, Jackson Atuhire 32, and Abubakar Kisoma who are all residents of Kiwanga village.

Owoyesigyire said the gang arrived at the factory at 10pm driving a lorry Isuzu UAB 269D, and parked it at a coffee factory in Butto, Bweyogerere in Kira municipality, Wakiso district. The suspects broke into the store and started loading coffee on the truck.

“Police were informed and a team from Kira Police division responded immediately and managed to arrest the four suspects. The four suspects are currently detained at Kira police and exhibits of coffee beans, vehicle, and breaking implements were recovered,” Owoyesigyire said.

But the lorry driver only identitied as Medi escaped as soon as he sighted police arriving. Police are currently hunting for Medi to join his accomplices. Police have established that the same group had broken into the same store sometime back and varnished with coffee sacks.
