Solskjaer Breaks Silence On Donny Van De Beek’s Manchester United future

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has opened up about his future plans for Donny van de Beek after he has struggled for minutes at Manchester United.

Donny van de Beek has found opportunities hard to come by since joining Manchester United from Ajax for an initial fee of around £35 million. He has made two starts for the Red Devils, that too in the League Cup. And it is safe to say that questions are already being raised about the thinking process behind his signing.

Manchester United have a packed midfield, so much so that even Paul Pogba has been left on the bench for the last few weeks. And when push comes to shove, Solskjaer will always turn to the Frenchman over van de Beek.

At this point of time, the likes of Fred, Scott McTominay, Bruno Fernandes, Paul Pogba, Juan Mata and Nemenja Matic, all appear to be ahead of van de Beek in the midfield pecking order. Solskjaer is adamant though that the opportunities will come for the Dutch international.

As reported by the Manchester Evening News, the manager said:

“He’ll get his games. Don’t worry about that.

“It’s easy to say who should be playing and more difficult to say who shouldn’t.”

It might be that van de Beek was a signing made with the future in mind instead of bringing into the first-team setup immediately. Paul Pogba has always appeared headed for the exit eventually and with his contract quickly running out, the club might decide to use their option to extend his stay by a year and then hope for a bidding war in the upcoming summer transfer window.

It might be after that that van de Beek’s opportunity really comes. In his 175 appearances for Ajax, he scored 41 goals and provided 34 assists. And it might that the Red Devils signed him up as he was available for a relatively low £35 million instead watching him go to a rival.

In that case, would it have been smarter to let him stay on at Ajax for another season on loan so that he could keep playing regular football instead of leaving him on the Old Trafford bench. Guess we will get to know that in the near future.
