Two men in Fort Portal municipality have been arrested for selling a purported cure for coronavirus disease- Covid-19.

The suspects have been identified as William Isingoma and Abdullah Gumisiriza, both residents of Hakibaale sub county in Kabarole district.

The Rwenzori West region police spokesperson, Vincent Twesige says the duo was picked up on a tip off from community members who saw them selling the purported Covid-19 herbal cure.

Twesige says the suspects were found in possession of the plastic bottles containing unspecified herbal concoctions.

The suspects are currently detained at Fort portal central police.

The suspects are not the first to claim to cure the global pandemic which has claimed thousands of lives using a herbal concoction.

In May this year, Madagascar President Andry Rajoelina launched Covid-Organics, herbal beverage, saying it could prevent or cure the virus.

The beverage is yet to get approval from the World Health Organisation.
