First son Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has said that government will make efforts to evacuate the few remaining Ugandans still trapped in war-torn Sudan.

Muhoozi who’s also the SPA in charge of special operations made the remarks as he welcomed the first batch of Ugandans totaling 211 who were evacuated from Sudan.

Sudan is currently facing instability arising from clashes between National security forces and a paramilitary group called Rapid Support Forces.

The national security forces are led by current president Abdallah Fatah Al-Bruhan while RSF is led by his hitherto vice president Gen. Muhammad Hamdan Dagalo. The conflict started 13 days ago.

Several countries have started evacuating their nationals as the fighting in the capital-Khartoum continues between the warring groups struggling to control state power.

“We’re also happy that we’re able to bring you back and most of you are in good shape. We’re very grateful that you’re home. We thank God that most of our people have come” Gen. Muhoozi said as he welcomed Ugandans at Entebbe international airport flanked by Uganda’s deputy ambassador to Sudan Ogwang Okul.

Muhoozi added that ‘the few still remaining there, we shall put in place plans to try to get them out as well’

These Ugandans jetted into the country in the dark of the night from Ethiopia’s Bahir Dar Airport aboard Uganda Airlines. They included diplomats, learners and businessmen and were accompanied by ESO boss Joseph Ocwet.

Their final evacuation started a few days ago as they boarded buses from Khartoum which transported them to Ethiopia since the airport wasn’t safe for any flights as a result of constant bombings.

Our Inspectors said the evacuation was led by The Head of Mission and Uganda’s ambassador to Sudan H.E Dr. Rashid Yahya Ssemuddu and brig. Freddie Karara with full facilitation and command of CiC  Gen. Yoweri Museveni with the coordination of the DG ESO Joseph Ocwet and first son Gen. Muhoozi.

Muhoozi was accompanied by deputy Amb/head of Chancery to Khartoum Amb. Dickson Ogwang, the chairperson of the parliamentary committtee on foreign affairs, hon. Norah Bigirwa at Entebbe to receive the first batch of evacuees.

While welcoming the group, Muhoozi spotted a sharp smile as he cracked light jokes with the returnees. Watch the video for details!
