Police and ISO have begun a serious hunt for six armed robbers who gunned down two mobile money operators and took away their cash in Zzana on Entebbe Road.
Kampala metropolitan spokesperson Patrick Onyango identified the dead as Harriet Nalwadda , a mobile money dealer and Maureen Nakabuubi who were attacked on Tuesday morning at their work place.
‘’The intentions of these armed thugs is to instill fear in business community that’s why they shoot to kill traders even after robbing them. As security, we shall not tolerate such heinous acts to keep happening on innocent Ugandans’’ he Vowed.
Robbers escaped with unspecified amount of money that the deceased were using as the opening stock.
Onyanga also confirmed that police raided a house in Masanafu a Kampala suburb where a UPDF officer one Richie Kasirye had illegally kept firearms used in several robberies. During the operation; one police officer was shot in the neck but was later rushed to the hospital.
One suspect who was arrested and two sub machine guns belonging to UPDF and two magazines containing 32 bullets were recovered. The guns had UPDF serial numbers for the Masaka area code.
Police and other security agencies have put the suspect Kasirye who managed to escape during the operation on the wanted list to answer the charges of aggravated robbery, murder and attempted murder.
It’s alleged that recovered firearms could have been used in the city robberies like the recent one of cheap hardware Nansana and surrounding areas.
