Visiting delegates will tour the Source of the Nile, the Equator and Namugongo Martyrs Shrine as part of the excursion during the Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference.
The sites together with Kagulu Hills in Buyende district have been selected as they provide unique tourist value to the visitors.
Spouses and accompanying persons, who ordinarily do not attend conference meetings, will visit the Uganda Wildlife Educational Centre in Entebbe.
Executive Director of UWEC, James Musinguzi said guides there, will make sure that visitors get the ecology of the area, and feed and interact with the animals and also understand their importance in the country’s ecosystem.
“It is our interest to give visitors their best experience and we also achieve the best in marketing Uganda. We are grateful that you chose UWEC as one of the areas for delegates to visit,” said Musinguzi.
Delegates will however, have to choose either to travel east to see the Source of the Nile and Kagulu hills or west to the Equator in Kayabwe, Mpigi district.
The CPC which will be held under the theme, ‘Adaptation, Engagement and Evolution of Parliaments in a Rapidly Changing Commonwealth’ is expected to attract over 1,000 delegates from the 54 Commonwealth countries and will be held in Munyonyo, 22 – 29 September 2019.
The Source of the Nile in Jinja is where British explorer John Speke proclaimed the start of Africa’s longest river as it starts its northward flow to the Mediterranean. This tourist site was visited by Prince Charles, who crossed the water source from one end to the other in November 2007.
The Equator line, an imaginary line dividing the globe into two equal parts, is best viewed in Kayabwe where it crosses the Kampala – Masaka highway. At the place are eateries and shops selling Uganda souvenir sand other memorabilia.
Kagulu Hill is a high rising rock of over 3600 feet located in Buyende district in Eastern Uganda. Visitors to the place are encouraged to take the climbing challenge and some of them have managed to get to the top. Kagulu Hill is now promoted as tourist place in this part of the country.
