Jinja Road police has arrested a woman identified as Evelyn Nandutu on allegations of killing her husband Justus Okumu, a security guard attached to Saracen during a domestic brawl for denying him sex for so long.
Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said Okumu’s body was found about five metres from the couple’s home at Binyonyi, Nakawa Division, in Kampala on Sunday night.
Nandutu had locked herself inside the house when she was found by Naguru police which was the first to respond to the crime. The victim according to Owoyesigyire, was stabbed severally leading to his demise.
An eyewitness who was found recording a statement at Jinja Road police station intimated to police that Nandutu did not single-handedly kill her husband but seemed to have been helped by two other men who lived in the same house.
Police, building on witness accounts, revisited the scene and picked details of the other two men who allegedly lived with Okumu in the same house. Naguru police, in collaboration with Jinja police successfully traced and arrested Okumu’s roommates identified as Wanzala David and Wandera Godfrey.
Police said the suspects were found in their hideouts with clothes filled with bloodstains an indication that they could have participated in the murder. Investigators suspect that the murder could have been ignited from the fact that Okumu accused his colleagues of having a relationship with his wife. They also reported that Okumu abruptly returned home to prove his suspicion and it is from the scuffle that he was stabbed with a sharp object.
Police records of 2018 show domestic violence contributed to the largest number of murders. Out of the more than 4,000 killings, at least close to 3,000 were as a result of infidelity and property wrangles.urn
