Tycoon Sudhir’s Ruparelia Foundation in conjunction with Gateway Delta and Gateway Metroplex Ltd, has donated over 4,000 food kits to the needy as the coronavirus continues to bite.
The give away was held on Thursday April 23, 2020 at the Office of the prime minister, in Kampala where each of the 4,000 food kits contain:
2 Kilos of posho
1 Kilo of sugar
1 Kilo of beans
Detergent soap/1 bar of soap
While addressing the media at the Prime Minister’s office, Mr. Rajiv Ruparelia, the Managing Director of Ruparelia Group of Companies and a trustee at Ruparelia Foundation said: “The country is going though one of its most difficult periods since independence in 1962. We are fighting a disease that cannot be seen. In comparison to some countries in Europe and America and China which, have recorded Covid-19 related deaths in their thousands, we in Uganda are so far lucky in that not a single death has been recorded,” Rajiv Said.
He added that, “This does not mean that that we should relax. If anything, we must continue to heed the directives of President Museveni and Dr. Ruth Acheng, the Minister of Health, if we are to come out of the crisis unscathed.
In this crisis, there are many people who have lost their jobs and are currently unable to support themselves.”
It should be noted that this is the third time Ruparelia Group is distributing food and other social amenities.
They started with distribution of relief aid to Kampala Central ghetto places before Government halted direct supplies to communities.
The second intervention was when they heeded to the President’s call to mobilize brand new vehicles for the National Task Force across the country. As part of their contribution, Ruparelia donated two brand new double cabin pickups.
