Fraud: Police Officer Charged For Conning UPDF Mp Brig.Oula In Shs17M Car Deal

A junior Uganda Police officer has been remanded to Kasangati prison in Wakiso District for defrauding a senior UPDF general in a fake motor vehicle transaction.

Constable Emmanuel Omoko appeared before Buganda Road court Grade one Magistrate Joan Acaa on Tuesday and read two cases of impersonation and obtaining money by false pretense.

Court heard that between January and March 2019 within Kampala district, suspect Omoko Ricky impersonated as an Assistant Superintendent of Police before obtaining 17 million shillings from Brig.General Innocent Oula promising to secure him a brand new motor vehicle.

Prosecution told court  that Brig.Oula wanted to buy a car and was connected to Omoko who presented himself as a car broker and at the same time a senior police officer working at police headquarters in Naguru.

However, after getting money, Constable Omoko disappeared with Oula’s money with out delivering anything.

The suspect was also charged with two other offences of impersonation, contrary to section 381 of the Penal Code Act and obtaining money by false pretence contrary to section 305 of the Penal Code Act.

The court heard that in June 2020, Omoko falsely presented himself to be working with  Criminal Investigations Directorate headquarters at Kibuli before defrauding shs1.6 million from one Vincent Opio Otok.

The money was meant to help Opio in a case that had been reported at Nansana police station.

Later, Omoko wa later remanded to Kasangati prison until June 26, 2020, when he will return to have his bail application heard.

Brig.Oula is a Member of Parliament representing the UPDF and also the Chief of Civil-Military Cooperation .

In another development, Uganda Police officers have started investigating Constable Omoko on desertion case.
