President Museveni To Address The Nation On Saturday

President Yoweri Museveni is set to address the Nation on Saturday July 11th 2020 as Uganda joins the rest of the world to commemorate World Population Day, 2020.

According to the Minister for ICT and National Guidance, Hon. Judith Nabakooba, the president’s address will be aired on all local Television and Radio stations at 11am.

In his address which will be the 18th ever since the covid-19 outbreak was declared in the country, Museveni is expected to guide further on measures to control the spread of coronavirus in Uganda.

The presidents address comes a day after confirmed cases in the country surpassed the 1000th mark following a surge in coronavirus cases observed in the last two months.

In the recent address, President Museveni eased restrictions due to the spread of coronavirus, but since then there has been strong agitation for further ease of the lockdown from traders formerly operating in Shopping Arcades as well as religious leaders who want places of worship re-opened.

Mr. Museveni also revealed government plan to distributed 3 radio sets to each homesteads to facilitate learning in homes after his initial idea of giving out TV sets was shot down by scientists since it involved congregating learners in one place.

Entebbe International Airport was also partially opened for Ugandan returnees who are stranded abroad following the lockdown on the country while commercial passenger flights remain banned.

Earlier today, President Museveni had an interaction with the Country Representative of the United Nations Population Fund, Mr Alain Sibenaler, ministers and the officials of the Population Secretariat, at State House Entebbe ahead of the World Population Day celebrations tomorrow.

In the interaction, Museveni said the concerns in regard to the quality and quantity of populations, having been exacerbated the COVID-19 pandemic, only strengthen the need for governments to facilitate the process of creating a more productive, skilled, middle class as opposed to a consuming one.

This years World Population Day events will be commemorated under the theme, “Leveraging Uganda’s Population Dynamics for a resilient future amidst Covid-19”.
