The Ministry of Health, Uganda has registered one COVID- 19 death on July, 31,2020 bringing the total COVID-19 deaths to four (4).
According to the Health Ministry statement, the deceased is a 61-year-old Ugandan female, a resident of Kiyimbi, Nakulabye in Kampala. She had symptoms consistent to COVID-I9 which include: cough, fever, chest pain and difficulty in breathing and sought treatment from Mengo Hospital on Wednesday, 29. July, 2020.
However, Mengo hospital referred her to Mulago National Referral Hospital on Thursday, 30, July, 2020 where she was admitted and her samples were taken off.
Unfortunately, she passed on yesterday, 31. July, 2020. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
The statement further adds that samples analyzed at Makerere University Laboratories confirmed SARS-COV-2. So far, 12 contacts to the deceased have been listed.
Similarly, twenty-two (22) new COVID-19 cases were confirmed from samples tea. on 30.July, 2020. Out of the twenty-two (22) confirmed cas., Six (6) are truck drivers, ten (10) are returnees from abroad, four (4) are contacts to previously confirmed cases and two (2) are alerts.
All As (6) truck drivers arrived from Kenya: four (4) arrived As Lwalthakha while two (2) arrived Aa Malan’ Points of Entry.
Regarding the returnees, nine (9) arrived from Saudi Arabia while one (1) arrived from Kenya. All were under quarantine at the time of test.
The four (4) contacts to previously confirmed cases are from Namisindwa District and were under quarantine at the time of test.
One (1) of the alert cases is from Namisindwa District while the other (I) is from Kampala Metropolitan Area, mentioned above who succumbed to COVID-19.
Nine (9) Kenyan foreign truck drivers tested positive for COVID-19 at the border points of entry and their entry into the country was not permitted.
