Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) spokesperson Colonel Overson Mugwisi has succumbed to Covid-19.
According to a family member, Mugwisi who has been on sick leave died on Friday.
He confirmed that Mugwisi died at an Army hospital at the Josiah Magama Tongogara Barracks in Harare where he was rushed to overnight after the family failed to have him admitted at both private and public hospitals.
His death comes barely a day since Zimbabwe’s Agriculture Minister died of Covid-19 at the age of 65. This was a day after two legislators tested positive for the disease.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa announced the death of a retired air force marshal Perrance Shiri on Wednesday.
“I am deeply saddened to inform the nation of the death of the Minister of Agriculture Retired Air Marshall Perrance Shiri, a long time friend and colleague,” President Mnangagwa said.
“Comrade Shiri was a true patriot, who devoted his life to the liberation, independence and service of his country.”
By presstime, Zimbabwe has registered 3659 Covid-19 cases with 1,011 recoveries and 69 deaths.
