Kampala Metropolitan Police has Monday evening besieged Forum for Democratic Change [FDC] offices in Najjanankumbi, along Entebbe Road.
police claim that they received reliable information that FDC supporters were planning to hold over night prayers ahead of Tuesday’s Presidential nominations and demonstrate after wards .
FDC spokesperson MP Ibrahim Ssemujju confirmed to us that police and other security agencies condoned off party’s head offices.
“We only invited 2000 party supporters to come to Najjanakumbi offices so that we can plan on how to escort our flagbearer Patrick Amuriat for Tuesday’s Presidential nomination but Police has cut off our premises which is absurd”he said.
Hon.Ssemujju added that FDC leadership was planning to hold special party prayers on Tuesday morning before they walk to Kyambogo cricket grounds to support and morale boost their presidential aspirant for nomination.
When contacted, Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson Patrick Onyango revealed that police beseiged FDC offices because they had received credible information indicating that thousands of FDC supporters had gathered at party offices planning a procession, contrary to Electoral Commission guidelines of having only 10 people.
“we are only allowing staff of FDC party offices but supporters who are being ferried from other parts of the country will not be allowed to access FDC head offices”he said.
Onyango appealed to the aspirants not to defy the Independent Electoral Commission guidelines.
