Kampala Capital City Authority ‘KCCA’ Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has been rushed to Nairobi in poor health conditions for medication.

He is said to have initially received treatment at Rubaga and Mulago hospitals, before he was referred to Nairobi.

According to new vision, Lukwago’s driver and personal assistant, Yasin Ssali, said his condition is improving, adding that Lukwago used a Uganda Airlines that departed from Entebbe to Nairobi at 9pm local time on Tuesday.

Ssali added that the Lord Mayor received treatment at Rubaga and visited a private consultant, who recommended him to seek further treatment in the Kenyan capital.

Ssali declined to disclose details of Lukwago’s medical complication, but promised to provide more information later.

Umaru Ssebunje, one of his assistants, said the Lord Mayor has been occasionally falling sick but he has been receiving treatment and had resumed his duties without showing any signs of serious sickness.

Ssebunje said he was not allowed to access him on Tuesday when he went to deliver some campaign materials the Lord Mayor had asked him to work on. He was told that Lukwago was unwell and hoped to check the next day.

Incumbent Erias Lukwago is running for Kampala Lord Mayor on the FDC ticket

Lukwago is seeking to retain his position as Kampala Lord Mayor in next year’s elections. He was nominated late September to contest in the polls on the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) ticket.

“I am also surprised because I was preparing to go back and explain to him over things he had asked me to do,” said Ssebunje.

He revealed that the Lord Mayor started getting unwell from the time he launched his campaign at his home in Wakaliga, Kampala. Ssebunje points at fatigue as a possible factor in his boss’ current health situation.(NV)
