Kagame’s Former Guard Lt. Gen. Musemakweli Dies Under Mysterious Circumstances

The Inspector-General of Rwanda’s Defence Forces Lieutenant General Jacques Musemakali, who was a few years back one of President Paul Kagame’s guards, is dead, although his death has left many unanswered questions.

According to RDF spokesman, Lt. Col.  Ronald Rwivanga, Gen. Musemakweli, 58, died late Thursday night.

“It’s true he passed on last night. Further details will be communicated in due course. For now, we are still verifying the cause,” Lt. Col. Rwivanga told the press.

Lt. Gen. Musemakweli previously served as Chief of Land Forces and the head of the Republic Guard which is in charge of protecting the president of Rwanda.

Musemakweli, one of President Kagame’s most trusted loyalists, also served as the president of APR Club, a military football club.

The deceased is survived by four children and a wife.
