Covid-19 Crisis: Kyambogo University Shuts Down For Two Weeks As Cases Surge

The management of Kyambogo University have resolved to shut down the institution two weeks as the second wave of Covid-19 sees increasing cases in students.

On Monday 31st May 2021, Management met with a team of health experts led by Dr. Monica Musenero, the Senior Presidential Advisor on epidemics and pandemics to discuss the covid-19 situation at Kyambogo University with the aim of finding means to reduce the spread of the virus and safeguard the community.

The team informed Management that it had made an impromptu tour around the University and noted that about 70% of the population were not properly wearing face masks and observing social distance. If such negligence continued and the situation is not immediately addressed, the spread of the virus is bound to escalate.

The medical team advised Management to temporarily close the University for a period of at least 10 days, limit human contact and immediately cease physical classes, step up the proper application of SOPS immediately and encourage staff and students to get vaccinated against covid-19.
