Mogul Hamis Kiggundu Shocks Arcade Tenants With Rent Pardon

As most traders continue crying to their landlords and land ladies to forgive them rent for the months spent in lockdown, tenants at City Tycoon Hamis Kiggundu’s buildings have a reason to smile after the proprietor called off rent for the month of July.

In a notice accessed by our reporter addressed to his tenants of Ham Enterprises (U) Limited, Kiggundu says the reason for waving off rent arrears is because all the entire country including his tenants have been under lockdown.

“We are back from the lockdown, management has taken a decision to waive off your rent arrears for the month of July since the entire country was under lockdown”, part of the notice read.

However, Ham Kiggundu directed his tenants to pay for the month of August not later than 5th August 2021 and fully observe the Standard Operating Procedures as commanded by the Government.

President Museveni in an effort to control the spread of COVID-19, locked down most of the economy including arcades and shopping malls.

However, when they reopened in August, hungry landlords demanded their arrears prompting conflict between both parties.

Traders through their multiple platforms have since engaged with the government to negotiate with landlords on rent arrears but this has hit a snug.

It should be remembered that the Management Ham Enterprises (U) Limited had earlier waived off rent arrears for the months of April and March 2020.
