DSTV, GOTV Subscription Fees Skyrocket Effective September 1st

MultiChoice Uganda, the mother company to DStv and GOtv has announced an increase in the prices of their packages.

Officials said the price change follows a rigorous process of balancing between technology, content value, and cost of delivery on MultiChoice platforms with a commitment to ensuring Ugandans continue to enjoy unrivalled access to entertainment, anywhere, anytime, and at the most affordable price.

“MultiChoice Uganda has sought to endeavour that these prices are as low as possible, as well as accessible for Ugandans,” said Joan Semanda Kizza, the PR and Communications Manager, MultiChoice Uganda.

“MultiChoice Uganda through its platforms DStv and GOtv have over the past year absorbed increased content costs and foreign exchange impacts, due to high inflation and operation costs while working tirelessly to ensure we provide an unrivalled bouquet of channels to watch and platforms to view them on,” Kizza explained.

She further noted that “Across the African continent, DStv and GOtv, each within their own right, still present the most value from other pay-TV offerings. We currently broadcast over 200 channels including audio, sport, kids, news, and entertainment.”

On the matter of price increase for the various packages, Colin Asiimwe the Head of Marketing, MultiChoice Uganda remarked that “When we decide on pricing, we consider our costs like our satellites and distribution equipment; buying shows, movies, and channels; decoders; our infrastructures like playout facilities, monitoring services and customer touchpoints.”

“We have structured our packages for affordability so that one package does not subsidize another. The same applies to all our other content. We charge customers on each package with a fair value for the channels they’re getting.”

“Some channels are superior and carry exclusive, first-run content which is very expensive, which is why specific shows are only included on our slightly higher-priced packages,” Asiimwe concluded.

DStv premium now goes for UGX 239,000 up, from UGX 227,000. The most affordable package on the DSTV will now go for UGX 37,000 up, from UGX 35,000.

GOtv Lite subscribers will pay UGX 13,000 per month in September from UGX 12,000 previously charged. If you’re paying for the GOtv Lite for three months (quarterly) you will be charged UGX 31,000 up, from UGX 28,000.

The price increase will be effective 1st September 2021 and all DSTV and GOTV subscribers are encouraged to take note of the change. It should be noted that these changes are as low as 1,000 Uganda shillings for some bouquets as highlighted in the tables below.
