Gen Muhoozi,Ethiopian Ambassador Discuss Historical Bilateral Ties

The Ethiopian Ambassador,her Excellency Alemtsehay Meseret Gelawu has paid a courtesy call on the Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations and UPDF Commander Land Forces Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

The two held a meeting that was also attended by the Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary Mr. Vincent Bagiire.

Gen Muhoozi and his guest discussed the longstanding friendship between Uganda and Ethiopia and other bilateral issues.

“We both reaffirmed the solid and friendly relations between the two countries and also resolved to continue close cooperation in the pursuit of peace and security in our respective countries and in the region,” Gen Kainerugaba said after the meeting.

Gen Muhoozi is hailed in Uganda after he participated in the reopening of the Katuna/Gatuna border post which Kigali authorities closed in April 2019.

In Kampala, Ministry of Foreign Affairs has welcomed the development.

The statement issued on Friday ministry of foreign appreciated Gen. Muhoozi  whose visit to Rwanda on January 22, 2022, “gave the assurance to the Government of Rwanda om Uganda’s commitment to addressing the remaining obstacles, hence reopening the border on January 31, 2022.”

The Government also acknowledged the representative sent by the Government of Rwanda to attend the official burial ceremony of the late Bank of Uganda Governor Professor Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile.

Former African Development Bank President, Dr. Donald Kaberuka, according to reliable sources will represent Rwanda government at the burial of Professor Mutebile on Sunday in Kabale.

Dr. Kaberuka is expected to travel will travel to Uganda through the common border point of Katuna.

Rwanda on Thursday, January 27, 2022 evening announced the re-opening of their border point( Gatuna ) three years after they closed it.
