Information from opposition corridors of power indicates that National Unity Platform ‘NUP’ party president Robert Ssentamu Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine is secretly fronting Hon.Flavia Kalule Nabagabe for the post of Leader of Opposition (LOP) in parliament in a bid to replace Hon. Mathias Mpuuga.
Insiders say Kalule has secretly been nursing ambitions to unseat the Leader of Opposition in parliament who has been perceived as collaborating with the regime protagonist.
Things have not been good in the most popular opposition party as a whatsapp group rumored to have been created by the pompous Hon. Mathias Mpuuga is discussing the impeachment of the National Unity Platform (NUP) president.
This is mainly because at one point Bobi Wine was accused of running the party like a family project. This lack of interparty cooperation has left much to be desired.
Besides critiquing government policies and blunders NUP has failed to achieve anything tangible and a year later, has settled into familiar role of the opposition parties before it such as Democratic Party (DP) and Forum for Democratic change (FDC). Moving past the protest phase and onto the bureaucratic, secretariat phase, of policy formulation has also proved difficult to achieve.
As if that is not enough, a faction of the National Unity Platform headed by Moses Kibalama ended their relationship with The People Power Movement and unveiled new offices in Lubaga after claiming failure to account for monies meant for running the party, lack of transparency in the people power leadership, failure to provide accountability, failing to respect the party’s constitution and exhibiting dictatorial management of the NUP affairs.
Every 2 ½ years the leader of opposition is appraised and the party decides whether to retain the LOP or make changes and rumor has it that Mathias Mpuuga could be dropped after the appraisal.
