The Senior Presidential Advisor on Political Affairs and head Office of the NRM National Chairman (ONC), Hajjat Namyalo Hadijah Uzeiye has commended President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for consistently championing the empowerment and emancipation of women through which female leaders in the country have had the opportunity to grow and make a contribution to the country.
Hajjat Namyalo made remarks on Tuesday, March 07, 2022, while delivering her Women’s Day message at her office in Kyambogo, Kampala.
She said the past two decades have seen an increase in the number of women in elected office, with women currently holding 34% of seats in Parliament, ranking 48th out of 187 countries worldwide, including the confirmation of Robinah Nabbanja as prime minister and Vice President Jessica Aluppo in June 2021.
“The past regimes ignored the fact that a woman can help a man when he needs help but President Museveni saw the value of a woman and didn’t give it a second thought other than bringing them forth through various appointments”, Hajjat Namyalo said.
The head of the ONC who also doubles as the National Coordinator of the Bazzukulu Movement cautioned women that being empowered doesn’t take away their responsibilities as women at home.
“Women are mothers, lovers and role models. They are good people. We thank the National Resistance Movement (NRM) chairman for having considered them. This (economic empowerment) is what I want women to concentrate on this time through the Parish Development Model and Emyooga. This will make big changes in society including women’s empowerment.”
Hajjat Namyalo asked women to lead the fight against corruption and greed in government officials, especially those involved in the misuse of government program funds such as PDM, and Emyooga, among others. She thus commended Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja’s resistance and described her as a great success as the Leader of Government Business.
“They were technocrats (office people) but Ms Nabbanja is proving that being a Prime Minister doesn’t stop you from being social and finding solutions for the common man,” Hajjat Namyalo added.
She further thanked the president for appointing her head the Office of the National Chairman and warned selfish individuals against tarnishing the name of the Chairman’s office.
“I appreciate that he gave me this office although it’s a war zone. But we fear no one even if they fight us, we need to use our opportunity as women to see that we empower people who have been ignored.”
This year’s national Women’s Day will be held at Sanga playgrounds, Kiruhura district under the Theme “Equal Opportunities in Education, Science & Technology for Innovation & A Gender Equal Future.”
It should however be remembered that Namyalo and her team have equally innovatively mobilized all over the Country even when Mafia has tried to fight the efforts and the initiatives.
The current ONC leadership took over office, at a time when many Ugandans, NRM coordinators, and Mobilisers especially at the grassroots had lost touch with NRM Government and President’s office.
President’s pledges would always not be delivered on time, or even not be delivered at all!
Poor citizens had lost touch with the President’s office and not feeling the Government, however, the story is now changing day by day with ONC’s efforts, and more Ugandans can directly communicate with the President of Uganda as well as have their issues addressed.
Hope and confidence in NRM, President Museveni has been restored in people, especially in areas like Buganda or the Central region where NRM lost most of the elective positions in the 2021 general elections.
