National Enterprise Corporation (NEC), the commercial arm of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), has been awarded the contract to construct a multi-million multi-purpose building at Gulu University Constituent College in Moroto District.
The project, valued at UGX 39.9 billion, is a fulfilment of the presidential pledge by H.E Yoweri Museveni to provide higher and balanced education to students in the Karamoja sub-region.
The Vice-Chancellor of Gulu University, Professor Openjuru George Ladaah, stated that the project marks a significant milestone in the development of education in the region.
The Deputy Resident District Commissioner for Moroto District, Mr. Tuko Justin, explained that all necessary compensation and groundworks were completed in the first phase over three consecutive years, paving the way for the project’s commencement.
This positive move marks the second phase of the construction of the first multi-purpose building at the project site, located 10 kilometres along the Moroto-Nakapiririt road, where the college owns over 7,000 acres of land in Nanduget sub-county.
Lieutenant Elias Turinomuhangi, the NEC project coordinator, promised to deliver high-quality work and complete the project as planned within two years.
Present at the ceremony were: Dr. Sidonia Akom, Chairperson of the Task Force, Resident District Commissioners and Chairpersons of District Local Governments across the Karamoja sub-region, security commanders, and other senior leaders.
