Uganda Applauded By African Union For Extraordinary Agriculture Summit Preparations

The African Union (AU) Commission has commended Uganda for its robust preparations to host the upcoming AU Extraordinary Summit on Agriculture, set to take place from January 9 to 11, 2025, at the Speke Resort and Convention Centre in Munyonyo.

Led by Dalitso Bonongwe, the Secretary to the AU Commission, a delegation conducted a week-long assessment from November 11 to 15, 2024, to evaluate Uganda’s readiness. The team reviewed key logistical aspects, including conference venues, accommodation, medical services, airport procedures, and security arrangements. Following their assessment, the delegation expressed satisfaction with the country’s advanced planning and infrastructure.

“We are impressed by the host country’s early and thorough preparations. Significant effort has been invested to ensure the success of this important Summit,” Bonongwe stated.

The Ugandan government was represented by Maj Gen David Kasura-Kyomukama, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry, and Fisheries (MAAIF), and Amb. Aisa Ismail, Deputy Chief of Protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Maj Gen Kyomukama reaffirmed the government’s commitment to delivering a smooth and impactful summit, emphasizing Uganda’s readiness to welcome delegates from across the continent.

“As pledged by our President, Uganda is fully prepared to host this Summit. We look forward to endorsing the draft Kampala Declaration for 2025 while reflecting on the achievements of the Malabo Declaration from 2014,” he said. He also extended an invitation to visitors to explore Uganda’s natural beauty, dubbing it the “Pearl of Africa.”

The Summit will focus on shaping the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) agenda for 2026-2035, aiming to drive economic growth and transformation through agriculture over the next decade.

This event will follow Uganda’s successful hosting of the NAM and G7+China Summits at the same venue in 2024, further solidifying its reputation as a premier destination for high-profile international gatherings.
