ATMIS Boss Visits Al-Shabaab Terror Survivors Undergoing Treatment In Nairobi

The Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (SRCC) for Somalia, Ambassador Mohamed El-Amine Souef, paid a visit to African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) personnel receiving medical care in Nairobi hospitals. These officers, injured during operations in Somalia, were transferred to Kenya for advanced medical attention.

Ambassador Souef was joined by Major General Peter Muteti, ATMIS Deputy Force Commander responsible for Support and Logistics. The visit was aimed at checking on the recovery of the injured personnel and reinforcing the mission’s dedication to their well-being.

Speaking during the visit, Major General Muteti expressed satisfaction with the healthcare standards provided. “The facilities here are top-notch, and the medical teams have shown exceptional dedication. We are encouraged by the progress our officers are making in their recovery,” he said.

He added that ATMIS prioritizes the health and safety of its personnel, ensuring they receive the necessary support for a full recovery. “Our commitment to the welfare of our soldiers remains steadfast. We aim to see them restored to full health and ready to continue their critical duties.”

The delegation also held discussions with the hospital management and medical teams overseeing the patients’ treatment. Dr. Aysha Edwards, an executive at one of the hospitals, assured that the officers were receiving excellent care.

“We are committed to offering the best possible medical services to ensure all our patients return to optimal health. The progress made so far is a testament to the dedication of our team,” Dr. Edwards noted.

Another senior medical practitioner, Dr. Anderson Mugo, emphasized the strides made by one of the patients. “We have seen significant improvement since his arrival. He is responding positively to treatment, and we anticipate discharging him in the next few days once we finalize his recovery plan,” Dr. Mugo stated.

The visit underscored ATMIS’s unwavering commitment to supporting its personnel, ensuring they are well cared for, and honoring their sacrifices in maintaining peace and stability in Somalia.
