Moses Ssali, popularly known as Bebe Cool, has released his much-anticipated “Bebe Cool List” for 2024, highlighting the artists who have made a significant impact on Uganda’s music scene this year.

The annual list is a hallmark of Bebe Cool’s critique and celebration of musical talent, recognizing creativity, consistency, and the ability to resonate with audiences both locally and internationally.

Among the top picks for 2024 is Elijah Kitaka, a rising star from Swangz Avenue. Praised for his exceptional voice and youth appeal, Kitaka is described by Bebe Cool as a game-changer poised to dominate the African music scene.

Azawi, another Swangz Avenue artist, secured her place for the third year in a row. Her track Masavu was lauded for its widespread acclaim, solidifying her reputation as a reliable hitmaker.

The viral collaboration between D Star and Mudra, titled Ozambe, also made the list. According to Bebe Cool, the duo’s strategic use of platforms like TikTok turned their song into a regional sensation.

Newcomer Kapeeke grabbed attention with his online hits Swiriri and Shu. Meanwhile, Acidic Vokoz stood out for his ability to draw massive crowds despite not releasing a chart-topping hit this year.

Gospel music also had its moment, with Springs of Life Choir gaining recognition for their inspirational song Lukusuuta. Pastor Wilson Bugembe’s Toonta was another notable mention, showcasing the growing prominence of gospel music in Uganda.

On the secular side, Nandor Love earned praise for her club anthem Kinawoolovu, though Bebe Cool encouraged her to improve her live performances. The duo Kataleya & Kandle and Dokta Brain also secured a spot with their popular song Nkuwulira.

Rising stars Ava Peace and Dax Vybz made waves with their collaboration Tabu. Bebe Cool expressed optimism about Ava Peace’s future, particularly under the management of Jeff Kiwa.

Veterans David Lutalo and Rema Namakula were commended for their duet Love Commissioner, a track that highlights their consistent contributions to the industry.

One of the most debated mentions was Alien Skin, whose unconventional style has garnered a loyal fan base despite limited mainstream airplay.

Bebe Cool also took the opportunity to highlight his own track Circumference as an example of innovative music marketing, setting the stage for his upcoming album Break The Chains.

As he wrapped up his list, Bebe Cool reflected on the challenges facing Uganda’s music industry in 2024, urging artists and stakeholders to collaborate on solutions for sustainable growth.

“This year has been a mixed bag, but it also presents an opportunity for reflection and innovation,” he said, encouraging the industry to focus on fostering talent and addressing structural issues.
