PS Dr Atwine Sacks Fort Portal Hospital Director Dr Adeku Over Singer Kigambo’s Death

The Ministry of Health has dismissed Dr. Alex Adaku, the director of Fort Portal Regional Referral Hospital, following public outrage over the alleged neglect that led to the death of Moses Kigambo Araali, a local artist. Araali reportedly collapsed and died at the hospital due to what many locals have described as negligence by the hospital administration and staff.

Dr. Diana Atwine, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, announced the decision, emphasizing that the ministry is committed to ensuring accountability and high standards of healthcare across the country. She noted that the public’s concerns about the quality of patient care at the hospital could not be ignored and that the ministry would take decisive action to restore confidence in the institution.

The incident has sparked widespread criticism, with many residents of Fort Portal expressing frustration over what they see as chronic issues at the hospital, including poor patient care, understaffing, and a lack of urgency in handling medical emergencies. Araali’s death has become a rallying point for demands for systemic reforms in the region’s healthcare system.

Local leaders and community members have called for thorough investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident. They insist that those responsible for the alleged neglect be held accountable to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

Dr. Adaku’s dismissal is seen by many as a positive step toward addressing the grievances of the community, but some argue that more needs to be done to improve healthcare delivery. They have urged the government to invest in better infrastructure, recruit more qualified medical personnel, and provide adequate resources to hospitals in rural and regional areas.

The Ministry of Health has assured the public that it is working to address these concerns and will implement measures to enhance service delivery at Fort Portal Regional Referral Hospital. Araali’s tragic death has served as a wake-up call for the healthcare sector, highlighting the urgent need for reforms to ensure every patient receives the care they deserve.
