In a demonstration of commitment to religious support and community engagement, the Office of the Woman Member of Parliament for Kazo District, Hon. Jeniffer Muheesi, has distributed Qurans and Yasalina books to all 23 mosques across the district.

The initiative, which took place on February 23, 2025, was widely recognized as a significant step in strengthening bonds between the Muslim community and the MP’s office.

Coinciding with an ongoing campaign to register Muslims for Zakah (Islamic almsgiving) support, the effort aims to extend assistance to vulnerable populations while fostering deeper ties with religious institutions.

Represented by three prominent county sheikhs—Sheikh Ahmed Mubarak (Kazo Central), Sheikh Ibrahim Ssekandi (Kazo North), and Sheikh Fatuma Nalwoga (Kazo South)—the donation ceremony underscored the values of unity and mutual respect. The Yasalina books, known for their emphasis on moral and spiritual development, were included alongside the Qurans as part of a broader initiative to empower religious institutions and promote Islamic education.

During the handover, Sheikh Mubarak praised Hon. Muheesi’s “visionary leadership,” stating, “Whoever shows you God, shows you eternity. This donation is not just a gift of faith but a testament to solidarity. Hon. Jennifer has shown she values all communities in Kazo.” The sheikhs collectively pledged their support for her development agenda, citing her responsiveness to grassroots needs.

In a related development, the ongoing exercise of registering Muslims for Zakah is making significant progress across all sub-counties in Kazo District.

The initiative, conducted in partnership with local Islamic councils, seeks to streamline aid distribution for education, healthcare, and livelihood support.

This initiative also aims to increase the number of beneficiaries of the program, which has already positively impacted many individuals in the district.

“No one should be left behind,” remarked Faridah Nakato, one of the beneficiary. “By updating our beneficiary lists, we ensure assistance reaches those most in need, in line with our inclusive governance model.”

Hon. Muheesi, who has previously championed education and healthcare projects, reaffirmed her dedication to “holistic development” in a statement: “Faith and welfare are pillars of community strength. I am honored to support initiatives that uplift every individual, regardless of religion.”

As the Zakah registration continues, her office plans to evaluate the program’s impact ahead of Ramadan, signaling further collaborations with faith-based groups to tackle poverty and foster social cohesion in Kazo.
