The Kenyan High Commissioner to Uganda, His Excellency Joash Maangi, met with Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, at the Special Forces Command (SFC) Headquarters in Entebbe to formally extend Kenya’s apology over an offensive publication in The Standard newspaper.
Ambassador Maangi, accompanied by Kenya’s Defence Attaché to Uganda, Colonel Patrick Kaduda, and senior officials from the Kenyan High Commission, expressed regret over the article, clarifying that the Kenyan government had no involvement in its publication. The meeting was also attended by Brigadier General Paul Namawa, the Special Forces Command Chief of Staff, and Colonel Christopher Muwumba, the CDF’s Military Assistant.
During the discussions, Ambassador Maangi emphasized Kenya’s commitment to maintaining the strong diplomatic and military relations between the two nations. He acknowledged General Kainerugaba’s esteemed service and contributions to regional security, reaffirming that the Kenyan government values its partnership with Uganda.
The Kenyan delegation’s visit follows The Standard newspaper’s public apology on X (formerly Twitter), in which it acknowledged General Kainerugaba’s distinguished military career and contributions.
General Kainerugaba, in his remarks, underscored the deep historical ties between Uganda and Kenya, emphasizing that no incident should be allowed to strain the friendship between the two nations. He called for mutual respect and dignity among leaders, stressing the importance of upholding diplomatic decorum.
The meeting concluded with an exchange of gifts, symbolizing the continued goodwill between the two countries. Ambassador Maangi presented traditional Kenyan attire and a lion sculpture, a gift from Kenya’s Chief of Defence Forces, General Charles Kahiriri. In return, General Kainerugaba gifted the delegation a copy of the President’s autobiography, a book on Uganda’s tourism attractions, and premium Ugandan coffee.
This engagement reaffirmed the commitment of both nations to strengthening their diplomatic and military relations while ensuring that misunderstandings do not hinder their longstanding partnership.
