Former Jinja Road DPC Julius Ahimbisibwe Commits Suicide In Nsangi

Police have launched investigations into the sudden and tragic death of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Julius Ahimbisibwe, a former Divisional Police Commander (DPC) at Jinja Road Police Station, who was found dead at his home in Nsangi, Wakiso District.

Authorities confirmed that SSP Ahimbisibwe’s body was discovered on Monday morning in what is being treated as a suspected suicide.

According to police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Rusoke Kituuma, initial investigations suggest that the senior officer may have taken his own life by hanging.

“Our officers responded to the scene and carried out a forensic examination,” ACP Kituuma said during a press briefing. “We also recorded statements from several witnesses, including those residing with the deceased. The body has since been taken to the city mortuary for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.”

While preliminary evidence points to suicide, the police emphasized the need for patience and professionalism as investigations continue.

“Though the circumstances suggest a possible suicide, we must await the findings of the medical examiner to make any conclusive statements,” ACP Kituuma added.

The news of SSP Ahimbisibwe’s death has sent shockwaves through the Uganda Police Force and the wider community. Known for his service in various key roles, including his time at the Jinja Road Police Station, Ahimbisibwe was regarded as a committed and experienced officer.

Fellow officers, friends, and members of the public have expressed deep sorrow over his untimely death, with many calling for psychological support services for law enforcement personnel and greater mental health awareness within the force.

“We have lost a dedicated officer, and our thoughts are with his family during this painful time,” said one colleague.

The Uganda Police has pledged full transparency in the ongoing investigation, promising to share details once the post-mortem and further inquiries are concluded.

Support services have also been offered to the deceased’s family as they come to terms with their loss.
