Tribute: Kazoora Was A Patriot Who Served Without Expecting Reward -Maj.GenSabiiti Muzeyi

Major General Sabiiti Muzeyi, Managing Director of Luweero Industries and former Deputy Inspector General of Police, has described the late Major John Kazoora as a true patriot whose service to Uganda was marked by selflessness and unwavering dedication.

Speaking during a solemn requiem mass held at All Saints Cathedral, Nakasero, Gen. Sabiiti hailed Kazoora’s legacy, recalling his decision to join the National Resistance Army (NRA) in 1982 at just 24 years of age. Kazoora passed away on Easter Sunday and was remembered for his lifetime of service, both in the military and in politics.

“Maj. Kazoora dedicated his life to Uganda, never seeking personal recognition or reward. His was a life of purpose, driven by a deep love for his country. He is among those who stood up during a time of great uncertainty, when survival itself was not guaranteed,” Gen. Sabiiti told mourners.

Having served in the army for over two decades before retiring, Kazoora also held key positions including Member of Parliament for Kashari County and special district administrator in several regions. Gen. Sabiiti said these roles reflected his commitment to national service beyond the battlefield.

The former deputy police chief reflected on the early days of the NRA struggle, a time characterized by political unrest, sectarianism, and violence. He noted that individuals like Kazoora joined the resistance out of a strong belief in the need for change, without assurance of success or survival.

“At the time, Uganda was teetering on the edge—torn apart by lawlessness and failed leadership. Kazoora and others helped pull the country back from the brink. Today, because of their bravery, Uganda is stable and even supports peacekeeping efforts in other countries,” he said, citing Uganda’s contributions in Somalia and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Gen. Sabiiti emphasized that Kazoora’s example should inspire future generations to embrace sacrifice and integrity in service to the nation. “True patriotism means standing firm in times of adversity. Kazoora did that. His legacy is one of courage and conviction.”

He also highlighted the progress made since the 1980s, from national stability to regional integration across East Africa, crediting the vision and resilience of individuals like the late Kazoora.

In a life that spanned the military, public administration, and politics, Major John Kazoora was remembered as a servant of the people, devoted to the ideals of justice, unity, and national transformation. His passing marks the end of an era, but his contributions continue to resonate across Uganda and beyond.
