New details regarding Ms Sylvia Muwebwa Ntambi, the embattled chairperson of the Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC), indicate that she is not admitted as per the documents submitted to the court.
This website’s investigations show that Ntambi feigned sickness to evade court, where she was expected to appear on Wednesday to respond to corruption charges.
Ntambi ‘s lawyer, MacDusman Kabega, presented contradictory documents on Wednesday showing that his client has hypertension and was due for surgery this month.
However, upon inquiry from Kawempe Medik Hospital, where he told the court that she had been admitted, staff at the facility told this website that they had never received Ntambi as their patient and that they had only four patients on admission as of Wednesday.
“I don’t want to talk about matters that I don’t understand. It’s possible to call her on the phone,’ said a staff member who didn’t want to be named.
The staff disclosed that, apart from admitting patients, the medical facility do not perform surgery.
Our reporter’s investigation followed a warning issued by the Chief Magistrate of the Anti-corruption Court, Pamela Lamunu Ocaya, who issued a criminal appeal against Ntambi, requiring her to appear and answer charges regarding the misappropriation of millions of taxpayers.
“I will extend criminal summons for the very last time. I will not hesitate to issue an arrest warrant if she fails to appear at the next court sitting,’ she ruled.
The last continuation of the criminal appeal against Ntambi followed her refusal, pending appeals given to her, to appear in court for the third time instead.
State attorney James Khaukha assured court that proceedings into the matter were complete and they were only hampered by Ntambi ‘s inability to appear.
Ms Ntambi was summoned by the court last week to appear after the prosecution modified the charge sheet to include her as the tenth suspect. She was expected to plead charges concerning conspiracy to defraud.
Ms Ntambi is jointly charged with nine other former commission employees who were barred after being accused last year and released on bail awaiting trial.
The nine suspects are Ms Agnes Enid Kamahoro, Moses Mugabe (Senior Reporting Assessment Officer), Harriet Byangire (Senior Accountant), Ronnie Kwesiga (Acting Accounts Assistant), Evans Jjemba (Principal Compliance Officer), Manasseh Kwihangana (Senior Accountant), Ronnie Kwesiga (Acting Accounts Assistant), Evans Jjemba (Principal Compliance Officer)
