President Museveni has asked Members of Parliament (MPs) to stop attacking the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr. Monica Musenero.
Earlier this week, Ntungamo Municipality MP, Yona Musinguzi accused Dr. Musenero of using the president’s name to hide under a private firm in the guise of carrying out research on Covid-19 vaccine to misappropriate funds.
After Yona’s allegations, the Deputy Speaker Anita Among appointed a select committee to carryout investigations on Dr. Musenero.
Speaking during celebrations to mark the World Science Week for Peace and Development, the President described Dr. Musenero as a decorated treasure and insisted that it is not right to attack such people.
“I saw some people attacking Dr. Musenero and I said do these people know she is a decorated person? When I saw people attacking her, I said I hope they are right because if they are not right, I will go for them,” Museveni said.
“You have no right to attack a decorated officer,” he added.
Speaking to journalists, Musenero trashed MP Yona’s allegations and claimed that she is clean.
“Just before I was appointed presidential advisor, I was working with the World Health Organisation. Therefore, my work ethic is far above what these people are trying to lower me to,” Musenero said.
She noted, “I have been working for years in jobs that pay. I don’t need to steal government money. I also work to produce the value more than what money is given.”
The investigations carried out on Dr. Musenero followed documents that were tabled by MP Yona Musinguzi before parliament showing misappropriation of Shs. 31billion of the Shs.50billion meant for production of the Covid vaccine.
