The National Unity Platform (NUP) party youth have endorsed Robert Kyagulanyi and asked him to contest for presidency in the 2026 presidential elections.

The endorsement was made at the NUP National Youth Convention held at the Jinja Show grounds on October 25, 2024, where the party youth leaders from all over the country had gathered to address the NUP top leadership.

According to Shamim Nambasa, the former Makerere Guild President, Kyagulanyi is the solution to the youth problems because he understands their plight and that he has given many of the young people hope.

“We speak for the youth of Uganda, who represent over 78%, and we are the biggest stakeholder in this country, and we are supporting Kyagulanyi because we need change,” Nambasa said.

She also asked the young people to stand up for themselves, take any opportunity available, and contest for different leadership positions.

“As young people, we need to stand up against anything that oppresses Ugandans; we need to refuse the coffee bill and anything that doesn’t stand right with Ugandans,” Nambasa added.

Maria Nattabi, the NUP Youth Chairperson for Eastern Uganda, noted that as young people they have a role in redeeming Uganda, and they can play this by endorsing Kyagulanyi and supporting NUP in the next presidential elections.

“As youth from Eastern Uganda, we are happy to announce that we are going to take on the responsibility of rescuing Uganda from the current regime, and this we shall do by supporting Kyagulanyi and offering ourselves for the struggle,” she noted.

According to Vicent Kato, a student at Kyambogo University, supporting Kyagulanyi for presidency is key because they have already seen the good leadership of NUP guild presidents who have been focal in fighting for the rights and needs of university students, unlike the former NRM guild leaders.

“We have seen many universities embracing NUP guild leaders because we have seen them change things at different universities, and we believe with Kyagulanyi as president things will be better,” Kato said.

The NUP youth convention was attended by young people from all over the country, mainly youth leaders and other youths from the Busoga region, who were the hosts. It was also attended by top NUP leadership, including the Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Joel Ssenyonyi, other NUP Members of Parliament, and CEC members.nexus
