Four suspects have been remanded to Luzira Prison in connection with the killing of Tugume Albert Cook Apuuli, a mobile money operator and brother to Kampala Deputy Lord Mayor, Doreen Nyanjura.

The suspects include Jimmy Mutagubya, a 27-year-old boda-boda rider; Kayemba Bosco, 47, a builder; and two unemployed individuals, Suuna Hamza and Makanga Marvin.

Prosecutors allege that on November 21, 2024, the accused ambushed Tugume in Kiwatule Central Zone, Kampala. They reportedly robbed him of a bag containing cash and mobile money equipment before shooting him. The same firearm is also said to have been used in the killing of Barnabas Sabiti, another boda-boda rider, in the same area on the same day.

The suspects were presented at Kampala City Hall Court before Magistrate Nicholas Aisu but did not enter pleas since the offenses of murder and aggravated robbery can only be tried by the High Court.

The court ordered the suspects to be held at Luzira Prison as investigations continue. Authorities are pursuing additional suspects, with three individuals—Hussein Kabuye, Joseph Bambaiha (alias Fire), and Martin Lukenge—still at large.

Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire has urged the public to assist with any information that could lead to their capture. Investigations are ongoing.
