BobiWine Sues IGP Ochola,AG Byaruhanga For Blocking His Radio Talk Shows

Kyadondo East Member of Parliament Hon.Robert Ssentamu Kyangulanyi alias Bobiwine, the leader of National Unity Platform (NUP) has sued the Attorney General William Byaruhanga, the Inspector General of Police Martin Okoth Ochola to courts of law for blocking him from accessing BCU FM Radio Station in Mbale.

Other police officers who were sued include SSP Wesley Nganizi the Regional Police Commander Mbale,Hajji  Barasa Sulaiman RDC Mbale, Fred Ahimbisibwe DPC Mbale, Lt George Mwonda Diso Mbale and Kato Arafat OC Station Mbale.

According to court documents drafted by Wemeli Anthony of Company Advocates,  Bobi Wine says on 8th August  2020, the respondents blocked him from accessing and speaking on  BCU FM in Mbale city which is not acceptable and demonstrably justifiable in a free democratic society.

Documents further show that there was infringement on Bobi wine’s rights to freedom of speech and expression and freedom of the press and other media.

Bobi Wine’s lawyers want court to direct the respondents to personally pay him damages for violation of stated rights.

Lawyers also want court to issue permanent injunction restraining and restricting the respondents and their agents from blocking the applicant to access and speak on any Radio station. The Magistrate Mbale Court summoned all the respondents or their lawyers to appear on 19th August for their defense.
