Deadly clashes erupted as police fired teargas and live bullets to disperse supporters of Presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine in Kayunga district.
Police and military blocked the main road leading to Kayunga town and fired bullets at defiant supporters.
Shopkeepers abandoned their shops and fled to safety as well as journalists who are covering Bobi Wine’s campaigns.
National Unity Platform party said many of its members were injured.
“Many members of our campaign team have been seriously injured and are currently nursing wounds at Nazigo HC III in Kayunga after police beat up many of them,” the party said in a social media statement.
“Among those injured are Producer Sir Dan Magic, who is bleeding from both the nose and ears and Afande Kato, who heads the Security detail that was given to Hon. Kyagulanyi by the Electoral Commission.”
The injured persons have been rushed to health facilities for treatment.
Later, the military was deployed to reinforce the police personnel in the area.(EU).
