The ruling NRM’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) recommended amendments in the constitution, regarding the administration of parliament.
A glitch in the Supreme Law of the land was realized after the death of the speaker Jacob Oulanyah, that Article 82 grants more powers to the Speaker and that no business will be conducted in his/her absence.
The NRM Chief Whip Thomas Tayebwa told reporters last evening that CEC also discussed the matter and recommended that, be considered for amendment.
The amendment will seek to grant more powers to the Deputy Speaker to conduct parliament business, in absence of the speaker.
CEC also endorsed the deputy speaker of parliament Anita Among to contest for the position, of speaker of parliament but recommended the position of the Deputy speaker be handled after burial of Jacob Oulanyah.
