Ministry of Education and Sports has released the 2023 School Year Calendar for Basic & Secondary schools, TVET & Health training Institutions at a Press Briefing held on Wednesday Afternoon by the Minister of Education Janet Museveni.

According to Ministry of Education, the 2023 academic calendar for Pre-Primary, Primary, Secondary, Technical/Farm Schools, and Community Polytechnics, First Term commences on February 06, 2023, and will end on May 05, 2023. Hence meaning that term one will consist of 89 study days.

The first term holiday will last for only 23 days meaning that Term One holiday will run from May 06, 2023 to May 28, 2023

The second term of 2023 academic calendar will begin on May 29, 2023 and end on Friday, August 25, 2023. Also making a total of 89 days, approximately 3 months.

The second term will also go for 23 days, that’s from August 26, 2023, to September 17, 2023.

Then the last third term of the academic calendar will start on September 18, 2023, and end on December 01, 2023. This will run for a total of 75 days making it the shortest with two weeks, shorter than the first and second term.

The Third Term will be the longest with 65 days, commencing on December 02, 2023, ending on February 05, 2024.

In total, learners will spend 253 days of the 365 days that make up a year.

Directives from minister of Education.

Teaching and learning should start promptly at the beginning of the school terms, and that these should not be cut short without clearance from her office.

All Headteachers of Boarding Schools, especially those in Kampala City, Mukono and Wakiso districts, should ensure that they stagger the starting dates for different classes over the week preceding the official opening and closing dates of the terms. This is intended to mitigate the inconveniences of traffic congestion.

All school open days and other annual functions should be set by individual schools and institutions during second school term.

School and institutions should sensitize parents and other stakeholders about the school Calendar.
